A song I recorded with The Therapy Sisters (on Mood Swings) a long time ago, back in the days when this was more of a problem for me. I offer it now as a cautionary tale for the young women I know still searching for true love and getting distracted by shallow cuteness on the way.

Piano, synth (psuedo steeldrums) and vocals: Marilyn Rucker
Bass and vocals: Gary Feist
Drums: Masumi Jones
Vocals: Becky Cavanaugh and Sharon Maner (From The Studebakers, Yay!)

Lyrics

Shallow Men

By Marilyn Rucker

Now there are men with good looks
And there are men with good luck
And there are men with bank accounts
All filled up with big bucks
And some men bloom with intellect
And some are sweet and sad,
But me, I love the shallow men, cause they make me feel so bad!

I love them shallow men
Got to have them shallow men
They say sex is fun but it's not about love
So don't fence them in
Got to have them shallow men
Them I don’t wanna wallow in it men
They never worry
Or so they all pretend.

Now I have friends of the male persuasion
Who are sweet and smart and deep
We like to meet for coffee and to discuss philosophy
They sometimes ask how a woman like me could love a man like you
I always try to laugh it off
And say lust knows no i.q.!

But I love Shallow Men
Got to have them shallow men
They lift weights till their arms are big as logs
But their legs stay thin
Cause that's what's women's likes
That's whats brings those womens backs agains
That's what they seem to think
Those callow shallow men

I finally settled down to love
One of those sweet smart deep men
Cause he knows how to keep me
From ever wanting you again
He knows to sometimes act a little careless, free and blithe
That's why he won that best buns contest downtown friday night!

Cause I love Shallow Men
Got to have them shallow men
They say sex is fun
But it's not about love
So don't fence them in
Got to have them shallow men
Them I don't want to wallow in it men
They never worry
Or so they all pretend!
